RayBanIs it とは?

1937年にアメリカを拠点とするレンズメーカー、ボシュロムから発表されたアイウェアのブランドです。「光を遮る」という意味のブランド名が指すように、「紫外線100%カット」をはじめとする機能性を重視したサングラスのブランドとしてスタートしました。そのきっかけは、1923年に米軍のパイロットが太陽光線によって飛行中に視力を悪くしたことから、その対策としてレンズ分野では技術的に高いレベルをもっていたボシュロム社に太陽光線を遮断するレンズの開発を要請したのです。1930年には紫外線、赤外線をカットする「レイバングリーン」が登場し、米空軍に採用されました。その後50年代に入ると一般的なファッションとして普及し、フレームのフォルムや素材、カラーなど多彩なデザインのサングラスが発表され、現在に至るまで世界中のセレブやハリウッドスターから愛用されています。また映画「卒業白書」で着用された「ウェイファーラー(Wayfarer：52年発表)」、「トップガン」で着用された「アビエイター(Aviator：37年発表)」などのモデルはともに大きな話題となり、今も定番モデルとして人気です。
