FRENCH CONNECTIONIs it とは?

1972年、ロンドンでステファン・マークスがスタートしたブランド。コンテンポラリーでエッジの効いたデザインが特徴で、ブランド名はフランスとの深い関わりに由来しています。当初、デザインチームに多くフランス人がいたことから、イギリスとフランスのカルチャーがミックスされたさまざまなデザインが誕生しました。1997年にスタートした、ブランドロゴである「FCUK」（French Connection United Kingdomの略）キャンペーンも有名。イギリスでは放送禁止用語になったり、英国広告基準審査委員会がキャンペーンを禁止したりと大論争を巻き起こしました。しかし、この騒動により若者から絶大な支持を受け、ロンドンのハイストリート・カジュアルブランドとしての地位を確立。今では世界30カ国に展開しインターナショナルに躍進するブランドとして知られています。とはいえ、2010年に日本からは惜しまれつつ完全撤退。
