1925年にエドアルド＆アデーレ・フェンディ夫妻が設立した、ローマ・プレヴィシート通りの小さな皮革製品店と毛皮工房が始まりのハイエンドブランドです。フェンディ家の５姉妹、パオラ、アンナ、フランカ、カーラ、アルダも加わり、その才知と手腕によって店は発展を遂げました。1965年にはシャネルのデザイナー、カール・ラガーフェルドを迎え、クラシックな毛皮のイメージを一新し、クリエイティブで機能的、モード感あふれる革新的なデザインで世界的に有名なブランドへと進化を遂げたのです。 その後1969年のプレタポルテと同時にバッグや小物も発表し、革製品へのプリントや脱色、染色加工など新しい試みを取り入れ、コートやバッグの裏地として使われていた「ダブルF」の柄を採用した「ズッカ柄」が誕生しました。毛皮とスポーツウェアのライン「フェンディッシメ」、ウエアと小物をラインナップしたトータルメンズコレクション「フェンディ・ウオモ」など、多岐に渡るブランド展開も注目のブランドです。
