1884年にギリシャ系イタリア人のソティリオ・ブルガリがイタリアのローマに創業したハイエンドジュエリーブランドです。ブルガリ家はギリシャで古くから伝わる銀細工師の家系で、そのノウハウを受け継いだふたりの息子たちが宝石やジュエリー、腕時計などを手掛けるようになりました。イタリアンルネッサンス、ギリシャやローマの古典主義などにインスピレーションを受けた大胆で革新的なデザインは、当時の映画界やセレブの間で注目を集めたのです。1970年代にはニューヨークへ海外1号店を出店し、現在は世界中に150ほどの直営店があります。1990年代に入るとフレグランスを発表し、1996年には最高級のシルクを用いたスカーフをはじめとする、さまざまなファッションアクセサリーを、さらに翌年にはアイウエア、ハンドバッグや財布などのレザーアイテムなども展開するようになりました。現在ではソティリオの孫に当たるパオロ・ブルガリとニコラ・ブルガリが引き継ぎ、リゾート・ホテルの経営にも進出しています。
